MIRACLES
In increasing numbers, reports of miracles involving people from all faiths (and those of none) are reaching the media. These include religious statues and icons weeping tears, real blood and even pearls; the extraordinary Hindu ‘milk-drinking' Ganesh statues in 1995; appearances or sightings of the Madonna; holy messages in fruit and vegetables; sweet-scented healing oil weeping from icons and paintings; spectacular colored lights in the sky; the gigantic Marree man drawing in the Australian desert; a Lebanese girl weeping razor-sharp crystals; and numerous reports of rescues and encounters with ‘angels'.
Life magazine's cover, in July 1991, asked: “Do you believe in miracles?” and reported that thousands of unexplained miraculous phenomena are occurring worldwide. “I did a little digging,” said editor Peter Bonventre, “and it turned out there'd been a rash of sacred apparitions all over the world ...

This photograph shows the newest miracle: the handprint of Maitreya, manifested on a bathroom mirror in Barcelona, Spain . Not a simple handprint, the image is a three-dimensional in appearance, similar to the print on the Turin shroud. The image of the hand also has extraordinary healing properties. When you place your hand over it, or simply look at it you are in effect calling forth Maitreya's healing, blessing or help—whatever is possible within karmic law. (The same effect can be produced even with a photocopy of the image.) Until He emerges fully and we see His face, this is the closest that Maitreya can come to us.
Healing Crosses
In 1988 glowing crosses of light suddenly appeared in windows and walls of homes in the Los Angeles suburb of El Monte, California, USA . The phenomenon spread to nine other US states and many other countries including Australia, New Zealand, India, the Philippines, the UK and Germany. Miraculous healings — many reported by the media — have been attributed to these crosses of light with people speaking of a peaceful, healing energy emanating from them. Communities have reported transforming effects (reduced crime, drug-taking, stress) after crosses of light have appeared locally. Many who have seen them claim they are signs that foretell the coming of a great spiritual teacher.”

On 21 September 1995, news swept around the world of miraculous ‘milk-drinking' Hindu statues. Never before has a miracle occurred on such a global scale. At the Vishwa Temple in Southall, London, 10,000 people in 24 hours witnessed the phenomenon. Journalist Suzanne O'Shea reported: “I knelt on the floor beside the statue of the bull and placed a dessert spoon filled with milk beside its mouth… Within seconds the milk had virtually vanished.” Mr. Bharbari, chairman of the Southall Temple, explained: “We believe this miracle, and those happening at other Hindu temples, may be a sign that a great Soul has descended, like Lord Krishna or Jesus Christ.”

MASTERS OF WISDOM
There is today a group of highly evolved Masters not affiliated with any one religion who are entering the modern world to work with us to solve the most pressing problems of the times including war, hunger and pollution.
All the major religions expect a further revelation to be given by a future Teacher. Christians hope for the return of the Christ, the Buddhists look for the coming of another Buddha (the Lord Maitreya), while Muslims await the Imam Mahdi, the Hindus a reincarnation of Krishna, and the Jews the Messiah.
Students of the esoteric tradition know these as different names for the same individual, Maitreya, the World Teacher, and they look for his imminent return now, at the head of his group of Masters of Wisdom. They are people like us, who have gone before us in evolution and who have always guided and inspired humanity from behind the scenes.
Preferring to be known simply as the Teacher, Maitreya has not come as a religious leader, but as an educator in the broadest sense, pointing the way out of humanity's most critical problems.
At this time of great political, economic, and social crisis, Maitreya will inspire humanity to see itself as one family, and create a civilization based on sharing, economic and social justice, and global cooperation. Very very soon he will be interviewed on television so that we can decide for ourselves the value of his words.
On Saturday 11 June 1988, Maitreya miraculously appeared suddenly out of thin air at an open-air prayer/healing meeting on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, and addressed the gathering of 6,000 people. Photographs taken at the scene were carried by major news media around the world including CNN and the BBC. Job Mutungi, editor of The Kenya Times, witnessed the event and wrote: “The tall figure of a bare-footed, white-robed and bearded man appeared from nowhere and stood in the middle of the crowd ...” He spoke for around 18 minutes and many of those near him were completely healed. He then departed as mysteriously as he had appeared: “Several people who witnessed this were astonished by his mysterious disappearance” wrote Mutungi .”

The Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East
by Baird Spalding
One of the claims of the "esoteric tradition" is that there are and always have been a great group of fully enlightened "Masters of Wisdom" living quietly on the planet. The best introduction to this group that I know of is The Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East . The first three volumes of this series are the travel log of a group of North American researchers who had the great good fortune to be welcomed into the Masters' lives for three years in the late 1890's. The stories are fantastic and the teachings wonderful.
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
Very much in the same line as Ramana Maharshi, Eckhart Tolle brings the mind to bear on the limitations in consciousness created by the mind. Coming from his own direct experience of life outside the confines of "normal" mental processes, Tolle provides incredibly clear insight into how the mind sustains our sense of isolation and unhappiness. To see all this clearly is to enter into an entirely new perspective on life.
The Reappearance of the Christ by Alice A. Bailey
In 1895 an English adolescent had a visit from one of the Masters who indicated to her that there was a great work for her to do if she could "give up being such an unpleasant little girl" and gain a measure of self-control. Eventually she succeeded in these steps and developed and ongoing working relationship with that Master as well as a second Master who dictated to her the most comprehensive description of the world from the spiritual perspective available to us today. This series of books, known as the Alice Bailey teachings, are demanding reading for serious students. However, this particular volume is easily accessible and it contains the teaching's most important message: the Masters are returning to open roles in the world led by their Teacher, the One we in the West know as the Christ.
The Great Approach by Benjamin Creme
This book brings Bailey's work into the here and now. Creme too has had long-term contact with one of the Masters, and his work over the last quarter century has been to bring their advent to the attention of all who would listen. He describes the world as the Masters currently see it and outlines the steps that we must take to establish order and justice for all people. This is a book that asks the essential question: What kind of a world do we want and what are we willing to do to help create it? Fortunately, it also assures us that the necessary leadership for real world transformation is at hand. (and for many other books by Benjamin Creme go to www.share-international.org )
Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda
India has a long tradition of "avatars," incarnations of fully enlightened individuals who come to offer some service to humanity. Paramahansa Yogananda was such a one. In this book he tells his own story with great humility and humor. The book is saturated with his great love of God as well as the toil of bringing a powerful approach to God-realization to much of humanity. The Self-Realization Fellowship lives on as the result of his great effort, making his teachings available to all who seek them.
Be as You Are: The Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi
edited by David Godman
To the extent one truly has an integrated personality and is seldom subject to the sways of emotional life, then the teachings of Ramana Maharshi provide an incredibly clear path into the life of the soul. This great sage lived permanently in a state of complete identification with the essence of all being. Amazingly for us, from that state he was able to function and to teach - although the majority of his "teaching" was delivered through the power of the transformative silence that surrounded him. He did answer the thousands of questions that were put to him, and many of those replies have been wonderfully well organized in this priceless book. The path is "self-enquiry," turning the mind inward to find out who it is at the core of being. |
